A message from the Live Donor Team at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board
Could You Give the Gift of Life?

Every day, people are waiting for a life-changing kidney transplant. A living kidney donation can offer the best possible chance of a longer, healthier life for someone living with kidney disease.
A kidney from a living donor often works immediately, lasts longer, and has better long-term outcomes than a kidney from a deceased donor. Living donation can also reduce – or even avoid – time spent on dialysis, allowing recipients to return to work, family life and the things they enjoy much sooner.
Many people are surprised to learn that it is possible to live a healthy, active life with just one kidney. Whether you are thinking about donating to a family member, friend, or as an altruistic donor to someone you have never met, our Living Donor Coordinator Team will support you throughout every stage of the journey. Getting in touch does not mean you are committing to donation. It simply gives you the opportunity to ask questions, learn about the assessment process, understand the risks and benefits, and make an informed decision in your own time.
One conversation could change a life.
