A Mountain Near You

About the event

National Mountain Climbing Day is celebrated annually on August 1st. It honors the sport of mountaineering and commemorates the 2015 milestone when climbers Josh Madigan and Bobby Matthews successfully scaled all 46 High Peaks of New York's Adirondack Mountains.

Since we are located in Pontypridd, we are situated near some of the best hiking and climbing spots in the UK:

  • Pen y Fan: Located in the Brecon Beacons, this is the highest peak in South Wales (886 metres). It is roughly a 40-minute drive (about 25 miles) north of Pontypridd via the A470, making it an excellent and accessible climb.

  • The Sugar Loaf: Located near Abergavenny, this iconic peak offers fantastic views and is about a 50-minute drive from Pontypridd.

  • Indoor Alternatives: If you want to train for an outdoor ascent, check out the Boulders Indoor Climbing Centre located in Cardiff, just a 20-minute drive from Pontypridd.
